Cheese Twists Recipe with Puff Pastry is a 10-minute prep, weeknight-easy, party-friendly appetizer made with puff pastry, cheddar, Parmesan, garlic, and Italian seasoning twisted into crisp, golden straws. Using pre-shredded cheddar and a press-and-twist method on parchment keeps the process quick, giving you cheesy puff pastry straws that bake in minutes.
1puff pastry sheet, thawed but still coldfrom a 17.3 oz package
½cupsharp cheddar cheesefinely shredded
¼cupParmesan cheeseshredded
1teaspoonItalian seasoning
½teaspoongarlic powder
1large eggbeaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the puff pastry sheet directly on the parchment.
Sprinkle the pastry evenly with cheddar, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder. Lay another piece of parchment on top and press gently with your hands or palm so the toppings adhere.
Trim the edges for neat lines. Slice the pastry crosswise into 7 strips, about ¾ inch wide. Twist each strip directly on the parchment, anchoring one end while turning the other. As you twist, some cheddar will fall off so you can simply push the extra cheese to the side of the pan for the next step.
Brush the twists with egg wash, then sprinkle the reserved cheddar over the tops. Bake for 15–18 minutes, until puffed and golden. Optional: after baking, brush off any excess crispy cheese edges for a cleaner look and cool on a wire rack.
