Old Fashioned Stick of Butter Rice Recipe is a buttery baked rice recipe made with French onion soup, beef consommé, and simple pantry ingredients. It’s perfect for weeknight dinners, comfort food meals, and easy side dishes. The rice bakes up tender and savory with buttery flavor throughout and lightly crisp edges on top.
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease an 8x8-inch or similar-sized baking dish with cooking spray or a light coating of butter.
In the greased baking dish, pour in 1 cup of long grain white rice, 10 ounces of Campbell's French onion soup, and 10 ounces of Campbell's beef consommé (or beef broth). Do not stir the mixture.
Place the slices of unsalted butter evenly over the top of the rice mixture. This will ensure the butter melts evenly throughout the dish as it bakes.
For added flavor, sprinkle ½ teaspoon of garlic powder and ¼ teaspoon of black pepper over the top of the mixture.
Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 30 minutes, or until the rice is fully cooked and has absorbed the liquids. The top should be golden and slightly crispy.
Remove from the oven and let it sit for a few minutes before fluffing the rice with a fork. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley if desired.
