Store any leftover pastries in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer storage, you can freeze them unbaked and bake directly from the freezer, adding a few extra minutes to the baking time.

Can I use a different filling for these puff pastry bites?

Absolutely! You can experiment with other fillings such as fruit preserves, chocolate, or even a savory option like spinach and feta. Just ensure the filling is not too wet to prevent the pastry from getting soggy.

How do I prevent the puff pastry from getting soggy?

To prevent sogginess, make sure the puff pastry is properly thawed and cold before baking. Avoid overfilling the pastry and bake until the pastries are golden brown and crispy. Using a preheated oven will also help achieve a flaky texture.

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Rolling Pin
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets puff pastry thawed
  • 6 oz cream cheese softened
  • ½ cup strawberries diced
  • ½-3/4 cup blueberries
  • ½-3/4 cup blackberries
  • ½-3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)
  • powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Roll out each puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Use a large cookie cutter (about 4 inches in diameter) to cut out 4 circles from each sheet of puff pastry, making a total of 8 circles.
  • Using a small knife, score a smaller circle about ½ inch inside the edge of each puff pastry circle, being careful not to cut all the way through. Prick the interior of the smaller circle with a fork to prevent it from puffing up.
  • In a medium bowl, beat together the cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Place about 1 tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each puff pastry circle, within the scored area.
  • Brush the edges of the puff pastry circles with the beaten egg.
