Banana Toast Ingredients
- Bread: Rustik bread was used in this recipe, but any artisan variety will do.
- Honey Almond Butter: Buy a little, or buy a lot. We bought a sample package for this recipe.
- Banana: One medium banana should do! (Two bananas are pictured above).
- Almonds: We purchase sliced almonds. Leftovers can be frozen to retain freshness.
- Coconut: Unsweetened shredded coconut is what we prefer. Coconut can be frozen as well.
- Chia Seeds: Chia seeds are a healthy choice.
A full ingredient list with exact measurements can be found in the recipe card below.
Substitutions & Variations
- Nuts: Choose your favorite crunchy variety. We like the sliced almonds because there's no need for additional crushing.
- Nut Butter: Natural peanut butter would make a great alternative for peanut butter banana toast.
- Coconut: We also like coconut flakes and large chips. Other dried fruits may work well.
- Bread: Use whole wheat bread, sprouted multigrain, or your favorite gluten free variety.
- Flavor: Feeling chocolatey? Try Nutella toast! We love pairing strawberries with this delicious hazelnut spread.

✔️ DO Use ripe bananas for maximum sweetness and flavor.
✔️ DO Get creative with toppings—honey, cinnamon, or chopped nuts add great texture and taste.
❌ DO NOT Wait too long to enjoy your banana toast—warm toast with melted almond butter is the best!
Storage
Banana toast is best enjoyed immediately after preparation to maintain its optimal texture. However, if you have leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one day. Reheat the toast in a toaster or toaster oven before serving.
Recipe FAQs
The best bread is one that’s hearty enough to hold the toppings without getting soggy. Whole grain, sourdough, or seeded bread add great texture and flavor. If you prefer a softer bite, brioche or thick-cut white bread work well too.
Banana slices can brown quickly due to oxidation. To slow this process, lightly brush them with lemon or lime juice. If you want a sweeter option, a drizzle of honey also helps while adding extra flavor.
It’s best enjoyed fresh, but if you need to prep ahead, toast the bread and spread the almond butter in advance. Add the banana slices and toppings just before eating to keep everything fresh and flavorful.
