How to Make Asparagus with Cheese

STEP ONE: Prepare the Asparagus

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Trim the woody ends off the asparagus. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in an oven-safe skillet over medium heat.

Add the asparagus, season with salt and pepper, and cook for about 5-7 minutes until slightly tender. Add minced garlic during the last 1-2 minutes of cooking to prevent burning.

STEP TWO: Prepare the Cheese

Sprinkle the shredded gruyere cheese evenly over the asparagus in the oven-safe skillet.

STEP THREE: Bake the Asparagus and Prepare the Panko

Place the skillet in the preheated oven and bake for 6-8 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

While the asparagus is baking, melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a small skillet over medium heat. Add the panko breadcrumbs and toast, stirring frequently, until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.

STEP FOUR: Sprinkle the Panko and Serve

Remove the skillet from the oven and sprinkle the toasted panko over the top. Serve immediately.

  • 1 bunch asparagus approximately 20-25 spears, trimmed
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • ½ cup Gruyere cheese shredded
  • 2 tablespoon toasted panko
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Trim the asparagus ends.
  • Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in an oven-safe skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the asparagus to the skillet, season with salt and pepper, and cook for about 5-7 minutes until the asparagus is slightly tender.

  • Sprinkle the shredded gruyere cheese evenly over the asparagus in the oven-safe skillet.
  • Cover the skillet with foil if needed to prevent the cheese from over-browning.
  • Place the skillet in the preheated oven and bake for 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • While the asparagus is baking, melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a small skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the panko breadcrumbs and toast, stirring frequently, until golden brown, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Remove the skillet from the oven and sprinkle the toasted panko over the top. Serve immediately.
